Tumble Dryer Filter

tumble dryer filter

A tumble dryer is a home appliance for the automation of drying your laundry after it has been washed. It works by tumbling your laundry through hot air to evaporate moisture. The leading home appliance brands such as Miele, AEG, Whirlpool, Hotpoint, Zanussi, Bosch, Hoover, LG, Siemens, etc have brought out a wide range of tumble dryers that are currently present in the market.

The tumble dryer consist of various components. One among them is the filter. All tumble dryers have a filter, which traps the fluff whipped up in the dryer. These trap the fluff whipped up in the dryer. To keep the dryer running at peak efficiency, you need to clean the filter every time you use the dryer. On some machines, filters lift out or pop out for you at the touch of a button. And some filters are double sided, with hinges in the middle and tricky catches, which makes them hard to clean. The essential make up of all filters is the same. Filters are formed with a hard, semi-flexible plastic frame that helps them maintain their shape. Within the frame is a small screen, which serves to filter the lint. These filters are inserted into a compartment within the clothes dryer that is designed specifically to fit filters recommended by the manufacturer.

Once filters are slid into the special compartment in the tumble dryer, they serve as a barrier between the clothes dryer and the remainder of the venting system. In this way, lint is trapped in the filter as it exits the clothes dryer. This prevents the lint from becoming trapped in the long, tubular attachment that leads to the outdoor vent. This outdoor vent serves as a means for the heat and moisture created within the clothes dryer to escape. Without filters, lint could become trapped inside the long tube, causing clothes to dry less quickly and creating a fire hazard.

Although all filters are made with the same basic structure, filters used in different brands of tumble dryers are not necessarily the same. For example, filters used for one brand may be long and somewhat narrow, while filters for another brand may be shorter and wider. For this reason, it is important to purchase only replacement filters that are recommended by the manufacturer. Otherwise, the filters may not fit properly within the tumble dryer’s compartment. If filters do not fit properly, large amounts of lint will move past the filter and clog up the ventilation system.
